” Ideas alone can be works of art; they are in a chain of development that may eventually find some form. All ideas need not be made physical.”
– Sol LeWitt
Well… most of the time I take notes about the works I want to ‘make’ in future. I ‘make’ them only when a gallery shows interest. Some, especially the ones that involve big amount of money or other supports remain in my notebook. The texts [/concepts] in my notebook can be considered as artworks as people can communicate with them and create those artworks in their thoughts. A few of ‘Not-yet-made works’ are listed below:
1. Money: 5-10 million dollars will be kept on the floor of a gallery room. The money will be used as bricks and will be given the shape of an eye. Visitors will be allowed to take selfies/ pictures by the work. [The work has been inspired by our Time and the songs related to Money by Pink Floyd, Abba and Mark Knopfler. I published a ‘Media/Intellectual Graffiti’ (I did term it) as well in Art Review in 2016 related to this work.]
2. The Thinker(s): Chairs will be kept at a park or any other public place(s). A mobile phone and wifi jammer will be used so that those who sit on the chairs do not get any mobile phone or wifi access. [It’s been inspired by the sculpture The Thinker by Auguste Rodin. It’s been published in Art Review, Summer issue 2017 as a Media Graffiti.]
3. The Scream: A sound box will be kept hidden somewhere on the pavement in a busy city. The sound of screaming will be heard after every few minutes. [Not to say, it has been inspired by Edvard Munch’s The Scream.]
4. Untitled: There will be randomly placed erected nails on the floor of a gallery. They will be coloured in white (or camouflaged with the floor) Although visitors will be given cautions about their steps when they enter the gallery the work might be found more meaningful if visitor(s) step on them. (There will be no other artworks in the gallery when it will be installed).
5. Adam and Eve: A young man and woman holding their hands will walk naked on the streets of any busy city.
6. Work for the workers: A base that will be made of concrete and bricks and will be covered with black tiles. (Size- around 12000 square feet; height 20 feet). [The base is inspired by the work Black Form Dedicated to the Missing Jews by Sol LeWitt.] On the base, some rubble and broken pillars will be placed which will also be coloured in weather-coat black.
The work preferably will be located in a field; in any rustic area.
The work is dedicated to the workers who died in the tragedy happened in Rana Plaza, Bangladesh in 2013.
7. The Brothel: Artificial vaginas ( 30 in number or depending on the size of the space) will be fixed randomly in the walls of a gallery. Male visitors would be allowed to use them.
8. The last work (The dead body of the artist): I believe an artist’s dead body is the ultimate artwork that can be made by any artist. I want to keep my (well dressed) dead body in a (renowned) art gallery after my death as an artwork. It will be kept in a coffin-like box and the top will be made of glass so that visitors can see.
9. A man reading the novel Fifty Shades of Grey at Tate Modern, London. He would dress like a gentleman or wear flamboyant outfits.
10. Two or three urinals bigger than the average size, colour: yellow, orange and Prussian blue would be on a wall, at a place public place.
11.The Grit in Your Shoe
The Art experiencers would be given a piece of grit at the reception of the Galleries like Tate Modern, MOMA or Louvre or any other busy Art gallery or museum.
They are meant to put the grit in their shoe while enjoying the exhibition. To experience the work, one should come to the galleries wearing shoes and not sandals.
